
Masjid Darul Islam is located in Elizabeth, New Jersey. The Masjid’s facility is structured on the first governor’s mansion in the State of New Jersey and has been designated as a historical site in the federal and state registry. Once the site of an all girls private school named the Vail Dean, it is now the house of Allah for worshipers from throughout the Islamic world Alhamdulillah.
For Muslims residing in the city of Elizabeth, Masjid Darul Islam is one of their primary centers for worship. This sprawling mosque complex calls the pious to prayer just like every other mosque spread throughout the world. The mosque also spreads the good word of the Quran, the Islamic holy book and offers a sense of community to the religious population.
The Five Pillars of Islam
1. Shahada (Faith)
The declaration of faith in one God (Allah) and His messenger (peace be upon him).
2. Salah (Prayer)
The ritual prayer required of every Muslim five times a day throughout their lifetime.
3. Zakat (Almsgiving)
The act of giving a portion of a Muslim’s wealth to those in need throughout their lifetime.
4. Sawm (Fasting)
The act of fasting during the holy month of Ramadan.
5. Hajj (Pilgrimage)
The sacred pilgrimage to Mecca required of every Muslim at least once in their lifetime if it is within their means.
